Name: Edna Schmelling Date: September 26th, 1917 - May 20th, 2009 Obituary: Mrs. Edna Christine (Albrecht) Perry Schmelling Edna Schmelling of Newald left her earthly home to join her husband of 67 years in heaven on May 20, 2009. Edna was born in Athens, Wis. to Nicholas and Christine (Bergman) Albrecht on September 26, 1917. The Albrecht family moved to Newald when Edna was a little girl. Perry & Edna met in Newald at a dance when Perry was working at the CCC in 1933. They were married on August 15, 1936. Edna & Perry raised 4 children and together they ran the Newald post office for 32 years until their retirement in 1977. After their retirement they enjoyed traveling. One of their favorite destinations was Grand Marais, Minnesota where they would spend the summer months on the shore of Lake Superior. Edna enjoyed baking, cooking, cleaning her house, crocheting, painting ceramics, embroidery and collecting teddy bears. She also enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers. She was very proud of her prize winning strawberries. Edna is survived by her children, Eunice Peterson, Newald, Marvin & Shirley Schmelling, Laona, Norman Schmelling and special friend Mona, Newald and Judy & Rich Schroeder, Pulaski. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, J. Perry Schmelling, one son-in-law, Erve A. (Pete) Peterson, and one daughter-in-law, Mary E. Schmelling, her parents Nick & Tina Albrecht, one grandson, John A. Peterson, one grand daughter, Brenda Sue Schmelling, one great grand daughter Brenda Sue Jobelius, and her 4 brothers and sister-in-laws, Martin (Jenny) Albrecht, Manley (Bum)(Renie) Albrecht, Reinhold (Ram) Albrecht and Edward Albrecht. We, Edna’s family, would like to thank the staff at the NuRoc Healthcare Facility where our mother resided since 2003, Dr. Peri and Hospice for their tender loving care. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 26 at the Weber Hill Funeral Home, Crandon at 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 12 noon with the Pastors Dennis and Wendy Mannering officiating from the Laona Presbyterian Church where Edna & Perry had been members for over 57 years. Immediately following the service Edna will once again rest beside Perry at the Forest Home Cemetery in Newald along with her parents and many other family members.
