Name: William "Bill" Dixon Date: March 14th, 1925 - July 22nd, 2009 Obituary: William H. Dixon, Sr., age 84, of Hiles, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the AGI Health Care Center, Crandon. Bill was born March 14, 1925 in Hiles the son of the late Jay & Erma (Kruetzer) Dixon. Bill was a graduate of Hiles High School. After graduation Bill served in the U.S. Navy serving during WWII from 1943 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. Bill married Jane Erwin and they were blessed with five children. He married Eleanor Erickson-Chariton in Markesan, WI in September 1977. Bill lived most of his life in Forest County except for 15 years when he resided in Florence County. While living in Florence he served as member of the Florence County School Board for 9 years. He was a deputy Sheriff of Florence County and a Fire Warden of the Long Lake area of Florence County. He also served as the Hiles Town Board Chairman for 12 years. He was past Commander of Argonne VFW and a member of the Forest County Veteran Honor Guard, and a lifetime member of both the V.F.W. & D.A.V. Bill was past President of Packerland Bear Hunting Association. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, berry picking, gardening and selling worms. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Daughter: Mary Dixon, Iron River, MI Step-daughter: Susan (David) Selby, Oconomowoc, WI Sons: Howard Dixon, White Sulphur Springs, MT William (Lucinda) Dixon, Helena, MT Tom (Gay)Dixon, Aurora, Colorado Step-sons: Jack (Denise) Chariton, Rhinelander Larry (Mary Ellen) Chariton, McAllen, TX Tom (Charlotte) Chariton, Sugar Camp. WI Sisters: Dorothy Birmingham, Hiles Betty Strong, Green Bay Mary Bernt, Wauwatosa, WI Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a son, Jay Dixon & brothers, James, Robert & Tom Dixon. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Christ Lutheran Church, Hiles, Funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon with Pastor Eric Vertein officiating.
